Wrench
As a volunteer-run collective, we always welcome new people with open crescent wrenches. If YOU want to volunteer to help others fix their bikes, organize the shop, or otherwise help out, we will be very, very glad! You don’t even have to know how to repair bicycles; we’ll teach you!
You can learn during open shop hours by fixing your bike, a friend’s, or one of ours to complete a “Passport”. Below is a sample of the Passport, which shows most of what you’ll learn:
To begin volunteering, email us at volunteer at bikesaviours dot org, or walk in during open hours to talk about volunteering. We’ll find a time that works for you to come in.
Then you can start at your comfort level. Maybe you’ll be ready to jump in and help people on your own, but you can start out shadowing another volunteer or working on a bike to learn about bike repair.
What we need most is commitment and a good attitude. Did I already mention that we love new volunteers?
Here’s a volunteer interest survey:
Collective Member
We make our decisions as a collective. If you want to help plan, organize, set policies, and otherwise pull the strings from behind the scenes to influence our financial plan, special projects, volunteer coordination, recruitment and retention, bookkeeping, tool orders, scheduling, and/or donation prospecting, then you’ve found the right place! It’s mostly fun, honest!
We have meetings once a month, and the date and times are posted in the shop. These meetings are open to the public, but only collective members can make decisions. Generally, people begin volunteering as wrenches and then also become a collective member. However, if you only want to help us with our organizational operations, we would love the help. The requirements for becoming a member with decision making powers are at least 6 months of volunteering, and then you must be approved by the group.
To get involved as a collective member, start volunteering as a wrench and come to our meetings. Or if you are not interested in wrenching but you want to help us run our NPO, email us at info @ bikesaviours.org
Other Projects:
If you have a great idea that we aren’t doing yet, you can make it happen if you are committed to it. Who wants to start Art Night or Youth Night? The resources of Bike Saviours, (tools, a shop, bikes, parts) have unrealized potential, and we welcome people who want to try something new.
